Frequently asked questions
What is Ritezy?
An online service that helps people in New York understand a legal problem and respond to it — without paying a lawyer for every question. You get a free instant answer, a $29 full check against New York and federal law, and, if you need one, a $149 letter ready to send. There's also a free library of plain-English guides, calculators and checklists.
Is this legal advice?
No. We provide legal information and self-help documents based on the official text of the law. We're not a law firm, and using the site does not create an attorney–client relationship. For advice on your specific situation, consult a licensed New York attorney.
How much does it cost?
The instant answer is free. The full check is $29. A letter, written only on top of a full check that confirmed its sources, is $149. No subscription — you pay only for what you order.
I got a demand letter or a debt collection notice. What should I do?
Don't ignore it, and don't rush to pay. Upload it: the instant answer explains what it asks, and the full check tells you your risks, the dates that matter and your realistic options — with the source for every legal point. If you need to respond, we can write the letter.
Which law do you cover?
New York State law (the consolidated laws, such as the General Business Law, Real Property Law, General Obligations Law, Labor Law and the CPLR), federal statutes and regulations that protect consumers, tenants and workers, and decisions of the New York Court of Appeals. New York City's local laws are covered in the guides where they matter. More states are being added.
How is the full check different from the instant answer?
The instant answer is a fast first read and is never checked. The full check searches the law for your situation, and every legal point cites a specific section, quotes it, and is checked to confirm the section actually says it. Points that can't be confirmed are labelled as our reading, not as law.
What if the check can't find anything?
Then we don't sell you a guess. You get a summary of your facts, dates and open questions, with no legal conclusions, and your payment is refunded automatically. You can ask us to run it once more at no charge.
What letters can you write?
A response to a demand letter, a demand letter, a debt validation or dispute letter, a cancellation notice, a security-deposit demand, a final notice before small claims court, or a complaint letter to a business.
What files can I upload?
PDF, Word, a photo of the letter, or text — up to 15 MB. Photos are read with OCR; if it's unclear, we'll ask for a clearer copy.
Who sees what I write?
Only you (and our support team if you contact us). Your description and documents are used to answer you and are never sold. See the privacy policy.
Can I get a refund?
If the full check can't confirm a source, it's refunded automatically. For anything else, write to support within 14 days and we'll make it right.
